			<title>Story shared: How she changed my life. </title>

			<description><![CDATA[Mrs Stevens was my third grade teacher at Warner Elementary School. I am 62 years old and have retired from my three professional careers.  I spent ten years in the US Navy achieving the rank of E7 in less than 9 years a feat only 3% of all sailors acheive.   After the Navy I attended Bible College in Texas and graduated with a 3.97 GPA making one B in Philiosphy and after 10 years as a Southern Baptist Pastor, I just recently retired as the Senior Imaging Engineer at a leading hospital in NM where I managed 27 millions dollars in assets.  
This evening while watching Jeopardy my wife asked what one story I would tell during this few minutes when each contestant is engaged by Alec Trebeck. I told her the story of how Mrs Stevens my third grade teacher taught me how to set goals and always look forward. She rebuffed me by saying, she has been with me for 45 years and married for 44 years and never heard that story.  
Mrs Stevens drew a set of stairs on the chalk board numbering them 3 - 12. She explained that each step represented a grade and if we were to ever stumble on a step that didnt mean we fell all the way down. We should take these steps as small steps that would eventually lead to High School graduation. 
I have used that simply illustration at various times my life to remind my self, small steps lead to big success. I recently changed it to how do you eat an Elephant - one bite at a time.
Mrs Stevens has been in my mind and heart for decades and in various times of victory and even some setbacks.  Her love for her students was evident then and obviously her entire life.  I am ever in her debt and am blessed to have had such a Godly lady in my life.  I am sorry to hear of her passing but I will see her again in her glory.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of your wonderful mother and grandmother Grace, whom I knew as my neighbor in Surrey Hills for many years. When I lived in Surrey Hills, I enjoyed very much our chance conversations out in the circle, when I would be struggling with my yardwork, and her cheer always gave me a little lift.  I loved your description of her as a "born optimist", and I thought what a perfect way to go from this life to the next life.

There were a group of friends who would meet once a week, at Perkin's, and, later at I-Hop.
Grace was the oldest one, of the group, still driving.
She would share pictures of her family.
